English 102 6 oct. 2013 Rhetorical Essay Speeches often correlate, especially when they are written for a similar audience in a similar situation. For example, President Franklin Delano Roosevelts Pearl Harbor Address appeals to Americans fear during the time of war. President Roosevelt states what has happened and how it will in turn affect the citizens of America. President Roosevelt also appeals to logic, stating that because America has been attacked, they must engage in World War II. In addition, President Roosevelt ives confidence to American citizens saying that, once they enter into World War II, they will win. Similarly, President Abraham Lincoln empathizes with American citizens. At this time, President Lincoln addresses Americans who have come together to commemorate the lives that America has lost during the Civil War. He encourages Americans to Join together to remember that these men have consecrated this ground. He encourages Americans to take courage and remember that they are together in a great country, Just as President Roosevelt encouraged Americans to continue to take pride in their country and not to be discouraged. Both President Lincoln and Roosevelt use pathos, or emotion, to empathize with American citizens as well as ethos, or credibility, to be able to point out issues because of their positions as presidents. In the Pearl Harbor Address, Franklin D. Roosevelt uses pathos more than logos or ethos to get to the American citizens emotions. He says, Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave anger, letting the American people know that this is a serious matter and we should be cautious. He ends the speech by saying, With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph so help us God, bringing the peoples hopes back up again that this attack will not go unpunished. He uses a little bit of ethos by stating who he is when he says, As Commander in Chief of the Army and Navvy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the haracter of the onslaught against us. With this statement he lets the people know how important of a roll he has in the situation, that he knows what he is doing, and that he will take care of things. The first example of pathos that he uses scares the citizens about the situation but it also makes them feel as though something should be done about it. The second example brings their confidence back in that they will win this battle. He appeals to their emotions by making them fear awful things will happen if they do not tight back witn the Japanese. He then gives them selt-assurance that it they do go to war, they will be successful. Although ethos is the weakest of the appeals that he uses, he still states his title by establishing that he is the Commander in Chief of the Army and Navvy. This is good because he did not provide any examples of his moral character so his position as president and as commander and chief is what really gives him credibility in this speech. In the Gettysburg Address that Abraham Lincoln gives during the civil war he also uses pathos the most, since its a war and everyones emotions are scattered. He says The brave men, living and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. He speaks about how the soldiers fought and died to create unity in the country. He then says, It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work, which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. By saying this he is trying to motivate the Americans that the country will become unified. In the first example of pathos, Lincoln tugs at American citizens emotions by explaining how the men fought for what they each believed in to try and create a onnected country. In the second example he is trying to motivate the United States to continue to work on the soldiers goal to unify the country. He says, These dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth. He doesnt want these soldiers death to go to waste, and the American citizens need to finish what has been started and become a whole again. In both the Pearl Harbor Address and the Gettysburg Address, pathos is the main hetorical point that is used. Since both speeches were by a president during the time of a war, they have several similarities. For instance, because both speeches occur at the height of an American military tragedy, the respective presidents utilize passionate appeals so that the American people feel the heartfelt sorrow and comfort of the Commander and Chief. In addition, these speeches that emphasize pathos have the ability to voice and appeal. They call out for the hearer to respond with greater patriotism. Also, the Gettysburg Address is a turning point for President Lincoln to unite the war torn country. His use of pathos gives him a way to communicate how the county needs healing. President Roosevelts address on Pearl Harbor has the power to move the emotions of Americans into war. Roosevelt pushes the buttons of the citizens on an emotional level to move a county into action. Both speeches encouraging that the county needs to build its self back together and heal. In that way these speeches are timeless examples of the emotional power of the use of pathos in speeches in American history.

As a result it becomes important for the nursing profession to consider cultural issues in light of the many issues that relate to the beliefs and values of individuals, groups, communities and nations. The introduction to the subject of indigenous people attrac ted a lot of my interest because I have always been fascinated by the broad subject of this people as relates to original populations. Particularly, a closer exploration of the conditions and issues related to the aboriginal populations of Australia is one that engages my interest at different levels. In this week’s lesson, we examined on some of the similarities and differences of various indigenous populations around the globe. One of the issues that require specific attention is that these groups’ exhibit similar characteristics in terms of world view but may have their unique needs and requirements when it comes to some specific details of matters of healthcare and community organization. Although the aborigines of Australia are among the oldest civilizations that still exist in modern history, there still exist multiple challenges on issues of healthcare which require closer attention from modern medical scholars. Generally, systematic negligence, discrimination, and poor policies are some of the issues that have been explored in terms of the inequalities that affect the status of healthcare for the aboriginal populations. However, further studies must examine the place of tradition, culture and custom as important attendant issues that affect the health of the aboriginal community. Effective nursing requires a deeper connection with the cultural challenges of populations in order to develop methods and strategies that are aimed at addressing these issues. I have always desired to gain a deeper insight into the lifestyles and challenges of the aboriginal community as they relate with the wider Australian community. I am also aware of multiple literatures, which has been developed to attend to the same subject. In this week’s lesson, one of the important issues that the professor trained his focus on is the matter of health. Hardly did Cinderella’s father know that he was bringing trouble to his home and more specifically to his beautiful daughter. The man had had a beautiful daughter through his first wife, who by now had passed on. This girl in contrary to the two stepdaughters was full of goodness, kind heart, and sweet temper. This girl was Cinderella. Now that her mother had died, she had no one to lean on other than her father. She was strongly missing the gentle care and love of a mother, which her father could hardly provide to her (Anderson, pg.58). In order to survive, Cinderella had to adopt the prevailing situations of hatred and hard work. She was not used to such difficult times but she had to apply her integrity to the situation Problems hardly ended with her tough daily chores. After hard day of work, Cinderella would then return to her room, now a barren and cold room. She would have nothing to do or anyone to talk to other than curling herself near the fire place as she tried to get worm. Her stay close to the fire point in her lonely room made her arise covered in dirt and cinders. The case of cinder caused her nickname, â€Å"Cinderella.† She however protected her stepfamily from the anger of her father. She knew that her stepmoth er and her step sisters were ill-mannered but she was always kind to them. She only decided to adapt to their commands and mistreatments towards her. She was only hopeful that a time shall come when she shall have some freedom and be able to live by herself. No matter how long it takes, she shall be alright (Erhard, Jensen and Zaffron). What seems to be a turning point to her life happened when the Prince decided to invite all the young ladies within his land to a ball. The prince was planning to select a beautiful wife of choice from these ladies. Without her knowledge, the stepsisters gleefully decided to plan their wardrobes for this ball. To turn her back, the two stepsisters told Cinderella that maids were hardly allowed to attend the ball since they could hardly be invited. Cinderella also had to adapt this situation, but this time, she felt great pain that made her cry painfully. Miraculously, her Fairly Godmother appeared to her. The Fairly Godmother started to transform Cin derella to the young lady she was from her immediate condition of being a house servant. This transformation was done in order to get her to the ball just like any other girl. She now gained much power that she could even change a pumpkin into not only a carriage, but a golden carriage. Likewise the conclusion of my research Essay I would like to study and research about Japanese business culture and Japanese way of making decisions, and analyze them. Every country’s business culture has always close relationship with its own culture, so I have to approach from Japanese culture to business culture for clear understanding. Also, I compare and contrast them with Korean business culture and decision processing. The approach would be Japanese business culture from foreigner (who understand Japanese culture)’s point of view, and analyze it if pros and cons exist. To observe Japanese business culture closer, I am willing to join Japanese company through internship or part-time job. These methods will make me experience the culture and decision process. At the same time, I can immerse myself to the organizational culture it promotes and how the management goes about on processes and ideas. Likewise, by reading a lot of case studies, it can help me to define and develop my research. Moreover, I will compare and contrast how Japanese and Korean companies go through this worldwide recession, not by countries’ policy, but by companies own policy. The company’s result and plans to mitigate the current recession will teach me lessons concerning efficiency and effectiveness. As far as communication and interaction is concerned, I will use a lot of observation and interviews with native Japanese people. Therefore, it is important that I enhance my Japanese language skill so that I could communicate profoundly with Japanese business people and understand Japanese culture better. This is essential in my research so I can actively get the needed information that I want. To conclude my research, I shall try to maximize the information gathered in my selected Japanese company and compare it accordingly to my selected Korean company counterpart. Dances With Wolves In his movie Dances With Wolves actor Kevin Costner tries to do away with any preconceived notions that the viewer might have had about the Native American Indians being a savage and inhuman race. He does this by first unraveling the mysteriousness of the Indians then he brings the viewer to a point of connectedness with the Indians and their culture. We then come to a sincere appreciation for them as human beings and individuals and find ourselves siding with them in matters of allegiance. This movie accomplishes this goal with several tactics and strategies. As the story unfolds we follow the life of John Dunbar (Kevin Costner) and take on his emotions and therefore come to the same realizations that he does. From the very beginning of the film we have a sense of compassion and empathy for John because he is injured and tries to die heroically. This form of justifiable suicide gives us a sense of his aimlessness and loneliness. Since most of the viewers have experienced some form of these feelings before we naturally want to hop on board with John's emotions and hold on for the ride. The first introduction we have to actual Indians themselves is when we find the Pawnee Indians discussing the idiocy of white men and how they should be destroyed. This band of Indians kill Timmons, a wagon driver who takes John to his new fort, and therefore we feel that our initial stereotypes are justified, however we do not see this through the eyes of John and therefore we are still susceptible to a reforming of our opinions. It is only through John's experiences and feelings that we feel truly attached to what is going on in the film. Throughout his encounters with the Indians, specifically the Sioux, John begin... ...s of the Indian, or have they. There is one last task that must be completed in order for the viewer to complete the enlightenment that was intended. When John is rescued by the Sioux we see that they are capable just like any other tribe of being both brutal, savage, and primeval in their attacks when they are passionate enough about what they are doing it for. In this action we see that the Sioux are therefore not the exception but merely our exception. They show us that the Native Americans were a people unlike any other with a very rich culture, a strong sense of family, and a passion for life that meant you worked hard and played even harder. They were not savages or barbarians in the typical sense they were individuals living together in harmony and strife the only way they knew how, which coincidently worked very well for them until the white man came along.

We wonder because our minds are not capable enough to understand such thing called mystery. We are living now to the world that has a great number of secrets around us. The conflict between the religion and science became the mystery of origin of life. They don't know which statement they will believe because some people do not really know which is really true. But the worst of all, ignorant people believe on the lies about human. It is also the religion he dominating the world in terms of followers. Hinduism is the religion that believes in the three Gods, (Brahmas, Shiva, and Vishnu). It is the dominant religion in India. Buddhism is the dominant religion in South-East Asia, however Philippines is the only Christian country in South-East Asia. In China, there were three religions, which ar e Confucianism, Taoism, and Legalism. There are actually some religions but they were not embrace by the other people. Nevertheless, some people do not have a religion.The Atheist is the non-believer people they believe only in humanity. I think religion is Just only geography. For example, if you will born in a Christian country probably you are a Christian and if you are born in a Muslim country you are probably a Muslim. People were so confused and hungry for the truth because of these differences. Meaning of Love According to the dictionary, the literal meaning of love is an emotion of a strong affection and personal attachment. Love is also said to be a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection.Love may describe compassionate and affectionate actions towards other humans. If I ask someone who's in love they would say this words. But if I ask someone who's heartbroken and I say, What's love? Do you think his/her answer is different now? What if I ask y ou what's love? What would be your answer? To love someone unconditionally meaner that you love the person exactly as they are, exactly as they were before, and exactly as they will be in the future because people change all the time, so if you love the person, you will love them even if they become something you disagree with. Love is not about you, your pleasure, or your amusement.It is not about what you get out of it or what the other person can give to you. It's not about having a trophy you can show off with and tell people This is my girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, son, daughter, whatever. You do not own anyone. It's not about you feeling proud to be with someone who always agrees with everything you say and do and never does anything you disagree with. Unconditional love meaner that the person can Just live their life exactly as they choose and you will always be there for them no matter what. If you are afraid to faced death, it meaner you do not want to see God then. Death is the only way to see God. After you die you will not leave home, you are now going home. The ‘Near Death Experience' is phenomenon where people rose from the death after they have declared dead. There is a story about NEED; a woman, who is suffering from certain disease, is schedule to operate. As the operation goes by the woman felt that there was unidentified force that lift her up in to the top of the hospital, and then she saw a shoe on the rooftop.Woman serves as a spectator when she saw the operation of her win body on the bed, trying to revive her, but it wasn't end successful. The doctor proclaimed her death, suddenly the woman grabbed the doctor's hand and the doctor was shocked because the woman came back to life , then the woman started to tell what she had experienced. The woman precisely explained about the operat ion and the tools that had use to her. The woman also, mention about the shoe on the rooftop, then the doctor goes up trying to find the shoe. Suddenly, he saw a shoe, and then he asks to the woman if the shoe she saw is the shoe he is holding on.The woman replied yes. All of the staff in that hospital was amazed of what was happen to the woman and how the woman cheated death. There are really mysteries in our life and beyond death that cannot be explained by anyone. Heaven and Hell The heaven and the hell are the two final destination of a man. They are the two choices of eternity. Life there is both eternal. Heaven is a place or a condition of supreme happiness and peace where good people are believe to go after death, and especially in Christianity, where God and the angels are believed to dwell.Heaven is he sky and the universe as seen from earth or the place where God, divine beings, and saved souls live. On the other hand, Hell is the place of eternal punishment for the wicked after death, presided over by Satan. If a soul is in hell, it can never go to heaven. People are so confused because they don't know where they are heading to. They say, they want to go in heaven but their act like hell and they also saying that they do not want to go in hell, but their action are still the same. The real question is there really a heaven or hell. If there, where is it?Why it is hidden or why we have to go here? These two places affect the destiny of a man together with his way of living. However, some people do not believe in this place. They Just believe that death is the final destination of man and nothing else would be. They have some points on what they are saying if you Just believed in you and yourself alone. However, for me, death is not the final destination of humanity it is whether heaven or hell. Moreover, if you really want to saved, have faith in Him; change now the way of your living. If not now, when would it be? Life is too short don't waste it.Yo u must hurry up before all things messed up. Surprises of Future Wicked you be surprised if the future has a plan for you? Maybe you will be happy or sad of what future will bring unto you. We are all busy now trying to ensure our future. We do a lot of works and we consume our time Just to accomplish it. We are We do not know yet our future or rather no one knows what is going to be in the future. If someone already knows his future, it would Just be a disadvantage for him because he is cheating his own destiny and cheating is a sin. All we can do is to live our life with perseverance and love.
